President of the National Union of Students, Malia Bouattia admitted she had ‘no hope’ for the future when speaking about Trump and La Penn at a University talk.

Canterbury Christ Church University hosted a talk about ‘racial and religious discrmination in the UK’ monday evening, where the NUS president wasn’t optimistic about the future when discussing Trump’s inauguration.

When asked about the US president ‘dislike for anyone other than a white male’, Bouattia said:

“I have no hope that it’s going to influence our leaders in anyway because May’s already had to roll out the red carpet.

“I believe [she’s] meeting trump next week. A right win agenda suits another. You may see the clown side of it but they will be politically in line with each other.”

Malia however did see the positives from the inauguration of the United States 45th president, mentioning it brought out ‘hundreds of thousands of people to the woman’s march on saturday’.

She continued: “It meant 370 marches across the board taking place – people want to talk about the fact they had to take the whole day off or call in sick from work or stop going to university because the situation was so disheartening and worrying.

“Because guess what we’ve got the French election coming up – Is Marine La Pen the future? It’s not heading in the best of directions.”

Miss Bouattia was elected as the first Black Muslim woman president of the National Union of Students. At the conference Malia spoke emotionally about how ‘Farage and UKIP and others are very much empowered right now’.

Speaking about right wing politicians, Malia added:

“One of its tactics is divide and conquer. It always has been. It continues to this day but with new migrant groups – it’s a classic tactic of divide and conquer.

“If I haven’t got enough money to feed my family I need a reason for that and everything around me from the media to my leaders is telling me it’s the Muslim, or the migrant or the black person next door.”
